About
We buy it, break it, then rank it
Crazy Ass Gear exists because most "best of" lists are written by people who have never held the product. We take a different approach: buy the thing, use it hard, and write down what actually happened.
How we pick products
- Start with what real users complain about, not what brands promote.
- Shortlist on durability, serviceability and honest value — not feature counts.
- Use each pick for real work, then rank it on a 5-star scale with the flaws listed.
Every guide lists the downsides
If a product has a weak battery, a plastic clip that snaps in the cold, or a price that makes no sense, it goes in the "what sucks" column. A roundup without cons is an ad.
How we make money
Amazon affiliate links. If you buy through one, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. That is the entire business model — no sponsored posts, no pay-for-placement, no vendor veto over what we write.
Who writes this stuff
A small crew of mechanics, hikers and people who own too many drills. Editorial drafts get reviewed by a human before anything is published.
